Introduction to the Case
Ann S Heileman's Case
“To the honorable John W Tyler Judge of the Circuit Court for the County of Fairfax,” that is the first words of the following document. This document is essentially a letter to a Judge introducing the reason for the following case to be called to court. This letter or document being an important file in terms of what the case of Ann Heileman’s administrator Orlando Huntt has called the case for. It also is essential in gaining background information on the case and what has happened prior to the case proceedings. In this case it unravels that Ann Heileman, being the daughter of William Mason, has been left a sum of money to be passed to her. The issue was she passed in 1856 leaving many children behind, but also with the question of what happens with that money that was meant to be left to her now? In her father’s will it was to be left to her outright, but with her mother as the administrator of that will, was given the authority to overrule the will and have the eldest brothers, William and George to care for the younger three siblings, Ann and Edgar (more on him later), included. Now with Ann’s passing and some of her money not being paid to her, her administrator is fighting for the children to be able to be paid since they are Ann’s heirs. The main argument lying in the fact that Ann Mason, Ann's mother had a third of the property left and she did not die until 1855, which is three years before her daughter's death in 1852. Thus leaving some property unaccounted for and the family is trying to obtain.
